Sleep deprivation is a leading cause of many health concerns today. So many people struggle to get good sleep. It’s such a shame because sleep rejuvenates you and aids in healthy lifestyle. How do you get control of this, getting good sleep? How can you finally sleep sound? Keep reading to get the scoop on these 8 healthy habits of people that get good sleep.
Here we go!
1. They Have a Sleep Schedule
People get great sleep because they are on a routine. If you develop a nightly routine, your body will be tuned in to sleep at your sleep time every single night. This helps you fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly. Give this a try and let us know if you feel a difference (psstt..you will)!
2. Activity Before Bed Time
People that are active in the evening before bedtime do sleep better. An evening walk after dinner, cleaning your house top to bottom at the end of the night, these are some good examples.
I saw a video from a vlogger who talked about this and it caught my attention. She works out at night because it helps her go to sleep better.
This doesn’t have to be physical activity either. You can do simple things like listening to music, taking an evening bath, or reading a good book.
3. Unplugging Yourself
Unplug for the day. This means detaching from the world and getting off social media, electronics and media. No looking at your cell phone in bed, no falling asleep to TV, really unplug. You can transition to bed-friendly activities like journaling or meditating before sleep.
Make exercise a priority and take it seriously. If you are active with exercise, you will fall asleep faster and sleep better.
5. Dim the Lights
Dim your lights at least 30 minutes to an hour bed wind down better. Try this tactic out, it works.
6. Adjusting the Temperature
Everyone has their perfect sleep temperature. Some sleep warm while others need it cooler. If you’re like me, you need it cold (icy cold, lets be honest) to fall asleep fast. In fact, during the day when working from home, if it’s cool I get sleepy. I turn up the thermostat a few degrees, making it warmer to wake me up and down a few degrees in the evening to cool down. You probably already know if you sleep better warm or cool. Don’t forget to adjust the temperature at bedtime to enjoy more restful sleep.
7. Read a Book
Turn off electronic devices and dive into a book. Book reading can help relieve stress and prepare for sleep. It’s a good habit to develop and built into your nightly routine. Make sure you aren’t reading anything too dramatic or high energy because that will have the opposite effect.
People who have great sleep will eat well. No caffeine before bedtime and no heavy foods or food at all, to weigh down your digestive system. Foods and drink can keep you up at night so get away from this habit if you tend to be a late night eater.
Getting a good night’s rest is essential for healthy living. We hope this tips help you get a more restful sleep at night. Try these habits out and let us know what you think!
