This is how I lose 15 pounds in 30 days

We have been told all our life that skipping breakfast is bad for us. But, did you know that I skipped breakfast for a month and lost 15 pounds? Keep reading to learn how I did it.

Why I Wanted to Lose Weight

For health reasons above all. My knees were starting to hurt walking up the stairs and I was getting back pain and heartburn. I felt pretty good about my appearance (I hold my weight well) but I wanted to drop some pounds to feel better and be healthier.

I did a lot of research trying to figure out what kind of diet to do. I wanted to make a real lifestyle change and not embrace a fad diet that would help me probably lose weight fast but then come back on when I returned to my normal way of eating.

I discovered intermittent fasting!

What is Intermittent Fasting

You eat and you fast. Your eating window is 8 hours and your fasting window is 16 hours. This is the standard a lot of people start with but you can do it any way you’d like:

  • 4 hour eating window/20 hour fast
  • 10 hour eating window/14 hour fast

So, a typical 16/8 fasting schedule would be to start eating your first meal at 11am and eat until 7pm (8 hour window). Then once fasting starts at 7pm you eat no food until 11am the next day. And that’s how it works.

What Intermittent Fasting Is Not

It’s not low-carb though a lot of people pair low carb with IF, it’s not part of the diet.

It’s not giving up your favorite foods or exercising like a crazy person. In fact I did no exercise at all while I was losing.

How It Feels to Intermittent Fasting

The first few days are rough, like with any new meal plan or way of eating or lifestyle change but you get used to it.

I lost my first 5lbs the first week and feeling lighter felt great. It was a feeling I grew addicted to and that helped me stick to this lifestyle.

I ate like I normally did. I generally eating kind of healthy with lots of leafy greens, salads, very little meat in my diet (no red meat whatsoever), I drink water, no sodas or fast food usually. So, this complemented what I was doing.

Eating like that (described above) helped me maintain my weight. The real weight gain for me happened in bursts.

The first burst was after I became self employed. When you’re a few feet from the kitchen, it’s easy to snack all the time and drink unlimited coffee loaded with cream and sugar.

The second burst was after a family member passed away. I had a new lease on life and was living the YOLO (you only live once) way, stuffing my face every time there was room in my belly for food.

The third burst was after moving, which helped me put on the last 20lbs. We did a lot of travel back and forth between our home base and our destination city which was about a 3.5hour drive. We’d stay overnight and indulge in the cities finest foods. It was a very culturally diverse city so I got to eat Jamaican food, Korean, Ethiopian..all those yummy cuisines and more.

It was like a food crawl every time we would visit the destination city to look for places to live.

So now, after 15lbs lighter I feel great. I still want to keep losing and I plan to continue IF and incorporate exercise to help me continue to drop weight.
