So, you have decided to jump into intermittent fasting?
I’ve been doing IF off and on for years. It helped me lose up to 4 pounds weekly. It’s helped me husband drop 40 pounds total from his frame. It’s a great way of eating, in my opinion, that lets you enjoy the foods you love, while making a lifestyle change to HOW you eat, so you can in fact, lose weight.
How Does IF Work?
You eat and you fast.
Your eating window is a specified number of hours every day you can feast.
Your fasting window is a specified number of hours every day you are not eating (you’re fasting).
And, that is it!
Most common is the 16/8 fast. This is where you fast for 16 hours and eat for 8 hours. People also do 17/7, 12/12. 20/4, and some even opt to do OMAD (one meal a day) where they eat for hour and fast the remaining 23 hours.
We recommend you start with an easier fasting window and then become more restrictive over time, if you so choose.
Here are some of the best intermittent fasting tips to slay your weight loss goals:
Best Intermittent Fasting Tips
1. Drink Lots of Water
H2O is your friend. Drink up.
Aim for half your body weight in ounces, if possible.
Drink water throughout the day and stay hydrated.
2. Eat large meals
Large meals will keep you satiated and satisfied. This is critical when doing intermittent fasting.
3. Avoid grazing your entire eating window
Grazing is eating little meals or snacking throughout the day. This won’t work well for IF.
You want to focus on larger meals. And, snacks are ok.
4. Don’t eat or drink caloric beverages during your fasting window
When it’s time to fast, make sure you fast.
Keep all foods and caloric beverages away so you can get the best results.
5. Pair IF with another diet (like Keto or calorie counting) if you need more structure
Tons of folks do IF with Keto or calorie counting or other ways of eating.
If you want to try this, feel free.
It will give you more structure and help you adopt a set way of eating that can be done within the eating window of IF.
6. Don’t Overeat
Overating can really kill you with this diet. Not literally, necessarily but your goal is to lose weight, right?
So why would you EAT MORE than you normally do?
We’re going backwards here if you do.
Enjoy the foods that you normally do or if you need a more structured diet, pair IF with another diet, as mentioned above.
7. Be Patient
Weight loss can take time, even with intermittent fasting. Some see results in the first week, others don’t. Keep in mind you can lose pounds on the scale and/or lose dress sizes so don’t feel discouraged if the scale fails to move or fails to move very much.
Weight loss is a slow and steady race. Do not give up.
